First up is our trip to Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. For those who don't know, the cemetery is one of the largest in the country. There is a very neat old chapel called Gothic Chapel. The cemetery a Fitflop lso houses the largest deer population in Marion County and is the home of the Heroes of Public Safety burial grounds. The cemetery contains the highest point in Marion County. At the top is the grave of James Whitcomb Riley. If you go to Riley's grave and turn south, you get a nice view of downtown Indy. I hear that if you look NW you can see the pyramids (we couldn't see them, I think the leaves block their view?). There are some famous people buried on the hill. It is a who's who of the city elite and wealthy. I used to drive past this place almost every day when I lived in Broad Ripple and worked downtown. Finally, after eight years, I got up and went, after visiting for a special event.

The is from the Heros of Public Safety area of the cemetery. There is a nice walkway with names of firefighters and police officers engraved in stone. I don't think you have to be killed in the line of duty to be buried here, but I am not sure. The last few officers who were killed are buried here. At the end of the walk are two vaults. They are time capsules with tools for fire and police work. The one on the left is the fire capsule, the one on the right is the police capsule. The fire capsule is to be opened Nov. 14th, 2034. The police capsule will be opened April 16th, 2035.

A year ago I went to Wolf Park up near Lafayette, IN. That year, they had a bison/wolf demonstration every other Sunday or Saturday. It was cool then, and I didn't dress warm. This place is more o Fitflop f a sit and listen watch place. I took a three year old, and I wouldn't recommend it. This would be a better place for kids a little older (my opinion). The live bison demonstration is pretty neat. They put two wolves in with the bison. The wolves immediately started to set up to get the baby bison. However, since there is a whole herd of bison vs. two wolves, an adult bison will always chase the wolves off. They said that in their history of doing this, no bison has ever been touched. It is a pretty neat place. I plan on visiting again in the future.
